Sunrise of Gahanna

This new 50-unit assisted living facility was designed for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease. Safety and visual monitoring of the residents were key design elements in the organization of space. A series of walking and resting areas allow residents to wander. Special effort was made to create a residential atmosphere and familiar spaces to house a variety of activities. The courtyard, which is bounded by the main circulation path, serves to provide orientation and light for the interior and a place for outside activities while maintaining a secure environment. This project received the ALFA 1998 Best of Homes Award for a Dementia Facility.
