Cedar Knoll

This project was conceived to embrace the principles set forth by The Green House project model. The model sets out to create a new type of long term care facility, where the ideas and conventions of the institution are replaced by the feelings and dignity of the home. The goal is to give the residents a sense of control, well being and to foster the feeling of living in a real home. The home was designed for 8 to 10 residents, all with private rooms and bathrooms, combined with open common areas and communal service areas. The staff lives with and cares for the residents creating a bond not typically found in a health care facility. The residents are encouraged to help with the cooking and other daily activities of the home, keeping them active and social. The design works to create a sense of community and a feeling that everyone there is an integral member of their home.
